Ah amore! I love making fun decorations for Valentines Day. We cut down a dead aspen tree in our yard last year and I love using the white barked branches and trunk in decor projects.
I thought a little Valentine initial tree carving was in order and I thought it would be the perfect project to play with my wood burning pen.
Do you have one of these? They are really inexpensive (especially if you use a craft store 40% off coupon) and lots of fun to use. They have different tips so that you can get some great hand lettering with some practice.
Just be sure when you put the stand down that you tape it securely to your work surface, that tip gets HOT!
I just went with a simple carved look, sure I could have just carved it, but this took about 30 seconds, and I feel a lot more comfortable with the wood burning tool in a pen shape then a knife. I would have cut myself at least 5 times and it would have looked like garbage.
I could have made it look fancy with some kind of calligraphy font, but I wanted it to have a carved look, like I just took it out of the woods after a romantic picnic.
My father in law carved their initials on a tree in their yard when they were younger. He passed away and after he died, the tree died. My husband cut the tree down and kept the part that he had carved and had it professionally framed. It is the sweetest piece of art that I know means a lot to my mother in law now.
I love the little branch that pokes out the side and I thought, yes my husband has my heart…but I have four little pieces of my heart that belong to my kids so I wanted to go a step further and add them to this little Valentine tree.
I cut out some hearts out of glitter paper, took some red bakers twine and hung them on the branch.
Now all of my most precious loves are represented in this cute little decoration and it sits cutely on my Valentine mantel.
Have you used a wood burning tool? What did you make? I would love to see!
