Do your kids love the Peanuts movies? My kids do, but my hubby and I have a special place in our hearts for them. Peanuts are our childhood, right? You couldn’t have a holiday without watching the Peanuts special that went along with it! Especially “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!” Such a fun Halloween tradition.
I thought I’d make some fun little treats to get the kids excited about watching it with me!
I wanted to make a Snoopy House, and I love Rice Krispies, so I knew I could make something cute!
First I made the treats…yum, is there anything yummier? I may or may not have eaten half of the pan while making these, so much for eating healthier during the holidays! Cutting them with a pizza cutter is my favorite way to cut these.
While those were setting up, I cut some squares of cardboard and covered them in tinfoil. Then I printed some Snoopy clip art that I found for free on the webs.
I cut those out and taped them to toothpicks. Cute little pup!
To put them together you can either use toothpicks or icing. I think toothpicks would be easier and would be sturdier, so if you are going to use these to let the kids decorate do that. If you are just going to let the kids eat them then I would go with icing, so they don’t have to pick out toothpicks.
To make a small batch of royal icing, just use one egg white and some confectioners sugar. Whip the egg white with a whisk for a minute and then add 1/2 cup of sugar at a time until it becomes a glue-like consistency.
Using a piping bag, plastic bag with a hole cut into it, or an icing tube squeeze a line of icing onto the bottom the side pieces and “glue” them to the foil bases. You want the bottom pieces to be thinner than the roof pieces to make it look like his dog house.
There are two different ways to do the roof, and they both worked great…this one looked cleaner, cut one side a little larger than the other and glue the smaller side to the larger side. It was a little heavier though. This would be a better candidate for toothpick construction.
The other way is to cut a treat in equal pieces and then just glue it down the middle and to the sides.
Look how cute!
Then you just pop those cute little toothpick Snoopy guys into the dog houses. My boys FLIPPED when they saw these sitting on the counter after school waiting for them.
What is your favorite Peanuts holiday special?
