Do you have a laundry closet like I do, or do you have a large spacious room to hang out in while you wash, dry, fold, repeat? This little small laundry room remodel was a fun weekend project that didn’t cost a lot…but made a huge difference. Not only in the way it looks, but also in the way I view laundry now!
Small Laundry Room Remodel
The laundry closet at our house has been neglected for far too long. I would love a large laundry room with all the amenities, but for now, this little laundry closet is a dream come true. It’s a longer closet as far as laundry closets go, and it’s in a dedicated space. The last place we lived, the laundry was in the freezing garage (and the pipes would freeze, thaw and flood). At one apartment, the laundry was a stacked set in our only small bathroom. No complaints about my laundry closet here…except that it wasn’t very cute to look at!
First, we took everything out of the closet. My husband had put up a shelf and rod to hang clothes at one point, and that’s what those big pieces of MDF are. The lines are where they were attached to the wall. Then, after it was all cleaned out and the walls all prepped, we just added a nice fresh coat of white paint.
Next, we hung some open shelves on the left just using some brackets and a 2×12 that we whitewashed and cut to size. Then, on the upper shelf we added a rod holder and rod to hang clothes from. We bought some inexpensive white cabinets to house necessities. Finally, the shelves in the middle, we added on.
There is a little space in front of the water heater where we were able to install this wire shelf to house all of our cleaners. After I took these photos, I found a little broom holder. Then, I was able to hang my mop, broom and duster on it next to this shelf. We are using every inch of this closet! 🙂
Laundry Room Decor
The top shelf is just for decor, as it is a little high to reach on a day to day basis.
The three little shelves just add such a cute happy spot to place some cute decor. You can get the tutorial and prints to recreate this laundry room decor over on Oriental Trading’s Fun365. The frames, the jars and the clothespins are all over there. You can also find the lanterns that are on my top shelf. They have such cute decor items!
Lastly, I placed two laundry hampers below the shelves to sort dirty laundry. There is enough space behind to store the vacuum cleaner. I love having all of my cleaning supplies in one space.
Don’t you love giving your home little pretty updates like this? I know that I will just close the doors and no one will really see this space but me…but isn’t that who you should be decorating your home for? If painting a closet and adding some shelves makes laundry more enjoyable, then I think that makes a weekend of work all worth it. 🙂
