Once upon a time I was a teenage girl who wanted to be a rock star with a sparkly guitar. When I was about 17, my mom got me an acoustic guitar for Christmas and paid for me to go to lessons. I started going and enjoyed it for about 2 days…and then I remembered there were boys…and quickly gave up my dreams. I still have that guitar though, and my daughter who is 10 has not quite gotten to that boy crazy age and if I keep homeschooling her, it may take her a bit to get to that point. I long ago realized that she is WAY more musically talented than her mom and gave her the guitar to play around with.
DIY Sparkly Guitar
I first started by taping all the parts of the guitar that I didn’t want painted. I decided to just paint the main face of it, that way I didn’t need to take it apart. I taped the strings that would be exposed to the paint and put a plastic grocery sack inside the guitar to catch any drips. I used Folk Art Chalk Paint in my daughter’s favorite teal color. I LOVE using this paint on pretty much anything. It goes on nice and thick and dries super smooth and flat. Love it! I only needed one good coat and then a second little touch up coat and then I let it dry before removing the tape and the plastic bag. It looks so much cuter already!
Now it was time to BLING it out! This part was so much fun! I used this Dream Sequins sequin tape, this stuff is amazing! I want to bling out everything with it. It just went on like tape and I put it all around the edge of the guitar.
Then I used these sparkly rhinestones and attached them with Tacky Glue.
I’m pretty much in love with it…
…and so is this girl. She is now strumming and singing, and bringing back all those memories of my rock star dreams. I guess I will just live vicariously through her. 🙂
And because we all love a good before and after…
And a close up of all the sparklies…
And one more of my cute little rock star…someday she will be famous and you will be able to say, I read the blog post where her mom blinged out her first guitar. 😉
What sparkly and shiny thing are you creating this week?
