This last week for school I had my oldest daughter open a lemonade stand. Let me rephrase that, she begged me to have a lemonade stand for the past 3 years and now that we live in a house with a safe street I finally caved. I did think it was a good opportunity to teach her about opening a business and what goes into opening a business and that you can’t just pull something out of thin air and start making money. I had her purchase all her own supplies, and then keep track of her revenue vs. cost of goods to get her profit. She has been having a blast and I’m sure we will be selling lemonade all summer long. She asked me to help her make a stand and I thought I could make one with just a couple pallets.
DIY Pallet Lemonade Stand
First I cut a pallet down to kid size.
Then instead of using pallets for the braces…they were giving me problems trying to get the nails out, I used a 2×4 I had on hand. Bekah helped every step of the way and sometimes we had little boys “helping” out too.
We just made braces on both sides of the pallet one on top and one on bottom. I had to use a little piece to straighten the side, pallets are not straight…who knew? 😉
I tried a couple different things for the table top and settled on a piece of white melamine board cut to size. I used some thin trim pieces of wood on both sides and a piece of scrap bead board from my craft room for the sign. Thin plywood or something similar would work just as well…maybe even better, but I like our Little Rascals thing we’ve got going on here!
Then using some paint we had in the garage, Bekah went to work painting it. I helped with the blue, but she was out there painting it for a good hour. She earned her money! I cut out the Lemonade sign out of outdoor vinyl and the font Wish I Were Taller.
A little banner and some lemons for decoration and she was all set! She hired a couple of employees to help wave down cars and bikers as they passed. The best idea of the day was putting out a tip jar, she made back all of her money plus some in the first day! 🙂

[…] They shoved their faces full of the carnival food we had. We had lots of popcorn, hot dogs and endless snow cones that the kids got to fill with whatever flavors they wanted (the flavors were set up on our Lemonade Stand outside). […]
