This month I am looking ahead to school…notice I said not looking forward, but looking ahead. I have a few friends who are teachers and they have been getting their classrooms ready as our school doesn’t start until the 4th of September. I thought a DIY desktop calendar would be a super cute and useful teacher gift for the first day of school. I also thought that I would want one myself for my craft room.
I have a TON of AlbumsMadeEZ kits and I’m sure if you have these sets you have lots of leftovers of the cute journaling cards to make other projects. I knew these would be perfect to make a cute calendar. I went through my cards and found enough to do the days of the month, some cute embellishment ones and some solids for the numbers and days of the week.
After I picked out my cards, I went to work making the structure. I used a 12×12 piece of heavy weight chipboard and some solid blue card stock. On both I made marks at 4″, 6″ and 8″, then I scored both of them at each of those marks.
I made a tent shape that can fold up in the middle, and I attached them together using a Sticky Thumb.
I went back and forth on deciding if I should use stickers or my own handwriting and finally went with my own handwriting and a broad marker. I wrote out the days of the month on cute printed cards, the days of the week on strips of solid cards and numbers 0-9 and 0-3 on halves of solid gray cards.
Then using my Cinch and some gold 5/8″ wire binding I laid it out and bound it all together. I love using that thing!
My favorite part is the cute cards that you can change for whatever mood you are in…or to represent a holiday.
It’s super easy to turn all the cards to show the date. You could also make a super cute countdown calendar with these! Just think of the possibilities!
Here are a few different dates on my calendar, I ended up adding a strip of washi tape to the bottom of the calendar after these photos, you can see in the first photo.
Sept. 4, our first day of school…I think this would make such a cute teacher gift, don’t you?
Halloween, because this is my boy’s favorite card,
