This DIY beadboard hallway project we did back in the fall because I was getting so tired of seeing my kids’ sweatshirts and coats thrown in the hall on the way to their bedrooms. I was hoping to be further along in our renovating before I shared it, but it really has been such a great addition that I wanted to share now! This was pretty inexpensive as far as dramatic results go. I am super in love with it even after all these months.
Here is our hallway before. 
Of course all of these kind of projects either have to be done on the weekend or night when the hubby is home, so the lighting is not ideal…plus it’s a hall. It’s hard to take pictures in a hall!
DIY Beadboard Hallway
And yes, I could do this project without my hubby…but I kind of (really) like watching this cute guy build me stuff. 🙂
For this project we ended up needing:
- 2 sheets of beadboard, but we have a lot left over from the second sheet so I can use it for other projects.
- Trim piece (cut to size)
- Hooks for coats
- Power Tools (we used a nail gun and drill)
The beadboard couldn’t be easier, once you have it cut to your size, just put it up to the wall and use the nail gun to attach it. You can use some wood glue on the back if you desire a stronger hold. Then you just put the trim on top of that and nail it in the same way. Use wood putty to fill in any holes and paint your desired color.
Because we are hanging heavy coats and bags on these, we found the studs and used stronger screws than the ones that came with the hooks that went through the trim and the stud for extra sturdiness.
It’s pretty great to have all those pretty little hooks in a row!
And now the kids can actually hang their coats up themselves so that I’m not tripping over them when I walk down the hall…and it looks good!
For the picture display I just used a couple of eye hooks and some jute. I hung a bunch of pictures using some hooks with clips attached to them. I like changing these out when the mood dictates.
I don’t know if these will stay up forever, but it’s an easy enough change for now until I know exactly the direction we’ll go with this hallway. Everyone who comes over seems to like looking at all of our memories on the wall.
Next up for this hall? Maybe some more beadboard on that small wall with the light switch, some fun art, updated doors (slowly changing those out as we go), wood floors and I’m thinking a pretty chandelier. And somebody please tell me how to make those horrendous doorbell, and detector boxes can be cutened up? Glitter? Mod Podge, Pallet Art? There’s got to be a cuter way! 😉
