I am so HAPPY that it is summer! I have been enjoying every delicious drop of it. You won’t hear me complaining about the heat no matter how much I’m sweating. I will just turn up the AC, turn my face towards the sun and smile like an idiot. It’s my favorite. It’s time to enjoy splashing, playing, and it’s time to pull out the 4th of July decorations. My patriotic decor was limited so I went to work making some new fun pieces. Since I love the coastal look in my house, even though I’m 3 hours from the beach, I decided to go that route.
I started with a piece of scrap bead board that I had cut into a square and some red paint.
I painted the grooves red with a disposable eyeshadow applicator, and yes I wanted it to be a little outside of the lines.
While I let that dry, I went to work on my 3d stars. These are so easy you guys! They add so much fun to 4th of July decorations too.
First you cut your stars out. You can use an electronic cutter like I did, a die cut, a hand drawn one, a pre-made paper star…whatever you can get your hands on. Then you score them.
Find something that has score lines in it and something to score with. For the star above I used a paper trimmer and an embossing stick. I have also used my punch boards and scoring knives from We R. You score from tip to bottom. Line them up on the score line and then score. Turn star and do the same on each point.
Turn star over and fold the tips in half, then just pinch the middles to give it a little more structure. It’s seriously hard to mess these up. They go together so easy!
To attach them to my board I just put a little dab of hot glue in each corner and stuck it on the board.
I attached a thin gold cord to the back and hung it up! For some reason it gives me a Ralph Lauren vibe…just me? Okay, well no matter what vibe it gives you, you have to admit…easy, cute and patriotic right?
