Didn’t this turn out so cute? Last year I bought a shamrock that I loved from Hobby Lobby, but they didn’t have them this year and I wanted something similar, so I could have one on my door and one on my mantel. I finally decided I could probably come up with a DIY shamrock if I found some kind of green. When I went over to the floral area and found this Mossy Mat that was peel and stick I clapped my hands right there in the aisle.
I grabbed one of these naked shamrock shapes…you can get these just about anywhere right now…and this looks way cuter than painting it with craft paint. 🙂 All the St. Patrick’s Day stuff was on sale, so I got it for just a few dollars. The moss was $10, but I used a 40% off coupon, so it was $6…so I paid less than $10 for the whole project! Woot!
All you have to do with this is pull it out of the package, put your shape on it and trace it. Then you just cut it out with sharp scissors…and get ready for a mess! This is not a project you want to do on your living room rug. Once it’s done though, the mess is gone. It stays on great, as long as you’re not swinging it around!Peel off the sticker, stick it on and smooth out any wrinkles…and then admire the cuteness and awesomeness of your DIY shamrock. You can hang it up on a hook or your front door and you are all set for St. Patrick’s Day decor! I still had a bunch left over, and some weird pieces after cutting out the shamrock, and I needed a decorative ball for my mantel. I wasn’t sure if it would work out on the Styrofoam ball, but it did! I just used the scraps and stuck them on, overlapped where it needed it and pushed it all down. When it is all done, you can’t see any of the seams!
This might be one of my new favorite crafting products. Ready for it’s close up! It looks super cute on my mantel and I can use it for more than just St. Patrick’s Day.
Have you used the stick on moss before? Would you make a DIY shamrock?
