Decorating my mantel has become one of my most favorite things to do. I change it up so often that my best friends that come by all the time are always coming in and saying, “Oh, you changed it again.” In fact since I took these photos a couple days ago I have added a giant white pumpkin on the floor and added more little pumpkins to my tiered tray and my greenhouse on my piano. I may have a problem. 🙂 I went with a very pumpkin theme for my fall mantel with some natural looking colors and textures added in. I LOVE how it turned out.
For this month’s mantel I wanted to make it pretty rather than spooky…one of the reasons was so that it could transition easily into Thanksgiving. Really I could just leave it the way it is now and it would be just fine until I break out the Christmas things! Fat chance of that happening.! You know I will be changing things up for Thanksgiving, but the less I can spend on new decorations the better. If I can reuse things I love from month to month, then I will absolutely do that. Shopping for new things for my mantel is one of my VERY most favorite things to do so I have to be careful on what I spend. Using coupons, shopping sales and using things I already have is the only way I can do this each month…without alerting my husband to my “ahem” problem. (Pretty sure he’s on to me, honestly I think he’s more worried about where to store it all than what I’m spending on it all!)
The new thing I picked up this month was the mirror. I picked it up at Target on clearance. Most everything else, besides the fresh pumpkins were things I had already purchased for other months, or things I already had on hand. Yay!
The little wooden pumpkin I got from Jo-Ann last year, the candle is a Bunko prize from Pier One, and the pumpkin tureen I’ve had for years, also from Target. The banner I made and the books are from my hubby’s bookshelf, I took the book jackets off and and found the ones in oranges and tans.
The three tiered tray I got from Pick your Plum this summer, I have been using it all over the place. The metal pumpkins (candle holders) were a wedding gift from a friend who knew my obsession with pumpkins was going to last. I still have not tired of these cute little things! Then of course my Chatbooks always have a spot in my decor somewhere.
As you know, if I decorate my mantel then I must also decorate my piano. It’s one of those musts in life, an “if then” statement that your kids can use in school when they are learning about such things. You know if x=y then y=x or something.
Oh no! I lied to you earlier, I also bought that faux gold and white striped pumpkin and the mini white ones from Target…so I did buy a few things this season…shhh! The basket I had though, and the wreath hook…and the welcome pumpkin, so see? I am not doing so bad here!
The little greenhouse I have had my eye on forever and finally picked it up at IKEA this last summer, it hasn’t stopped being cute. Super happy with that purchase and I’m sure you’ll see it in many mantel and piano vignettes in the future. The candlesticks are another favorite and well used purchase from Walmart (the Better Homes & Garden line has some super cute things!).
The twigs are from my tree, the straws are from my collection…I admit I have a problem there. I have a whole drawer full of pretty paper straws no one is allowed to use for what they are actually for…they are just for me to admire and put in jars apparently. I’m fine with that. The I love ya Pumpkin tag I made and you can print it here on the site if you look in the printables.
I think this is so fun and Halloween-ish without being spooky, I love seeing it each day. I am thinking of adding a burlap runner. Like I said, I’m never done decorating.
So there you are! My pretty fall mantel! I’ll leave you a with a few more pictures of this happy little spot in my home. Let me know if I missed any sources. 🙂
