I am so excited to FINALLY have a fireplace! We have been going back and forth on what we wanted for so long I felt like my head was going to explode. No really. I was putting down tarps to catch any splatter from the head exploding aftermath. After nearly a year of definite yes’s to absolutely not’s….we finally landed on adding a closet to our little corner in the living room and then putting an electric fireplace in front of it. Then after that was definitely decided my husband heard about gel fuel fireplaces where you get a real flame instead of a fake one, and I ordered one that day because I just couldn’t handle it any longer. I was hoping it would be here by Christmas…but it wasn’t. SO this is my very first OFFICIAL Making the World Cuter Valentine Mantel Decor post! Yup it’s in front of a sheetrock wall because we still haven’t had time (and funds) to finish the closet, so we are just being happy in the journey. That’s what I try to tell myself anyway. 😉
Valentine Day Mantel
A few things going on here. First of all my heart canvas I made that I ADORE. Be sure to check out the easy tutorial. The metal heart and wreath stand I got at one of my favorite stores Real Deals here in town. Then there are the candles that I just wrapped with washi tape to give a little Valentine oomph to them and I can take it right off on February 15th. The candy jars are from the Dollar store and I just filled them with appropriate colored candy. That was easy…and cute…and inexpensive…and delicious! Oh and the heart lights are from the Target one spot.
The candlesticks are from Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart and I am kind of obsessed with them, I mean they are perfect! These will be a staple in probably close to all mantel decorating from here on out I’m sure! The pink puff ball was given to me from a party supply store, you can find these for cheap lots of places.
Then we have that glorious black arrow! I grabbed an unfinished wooden arrow last time I was at Jo-Ann Craft and Fabric Store and gave it a light sanding before painting it with chalkboard paint. It didn’t necessarily need to be chalboarded…(not a word, but it probably should be), but I wanted it black and I have plenty of this stuff. I played with washi tape on it, and maybe someday it will need to be decorated that way, but for now I’m great with it being just black.
Of course I could have also used it as a chalkboard and put something punny (also not a word) on it. This time though, I was going for classy cute, not punny cute. (Still not a word).
One of my favorite parts is this Wooden Tic Tac Toe I got from a clearance bin at Walmart while purchasing the above mentioned candlesticks. The link will show you some from Amazon that are similar but not the same. I love this. Love it. Love, love, love.
You can still kind of see my handdrawn fireplace and mantel that I put up on Christmas eve so that I had someplace to hang the stockings. I am hoping by next month that we will have an actual wall here, but I’m not holding my breath…I have so many things on our to do list for this house that I just can’t imagine it ever all being done.
I am just happy for now that I have this fun place to decorate each holiday!
