Last weekend my sister and I hosted a favorite things party and we had such a fun time! I decided that we would “shop” for the things we got to take home…since shopping is one of my favorite things. If you’re shopping you need a bag, and if you are shopping for cute things, you need a cute bag, right? I thought a little DIY canvas tote bag would be just the thing to cuten up the party.
DIY Canvas Tote
I have a little sign out by front door that says hello with a heart next to it. It is adorable, and I love seeing it every time I walk up to my front door, so that was my inspiration when making these bags.
I got the white bags and heart shaped buttons from Oriental Trading Company. I needed to make 18 bags, and anyone who shops at Oriental Trading Company knows that you order your items in bulk, so I have LOTS more bags to do fun gift bags, library bags, and just about anything else with leftover! If you are planning a party, I really recommend looking at their website first since they will most likely have exactly what you are looking for!
For the “hello” I just used some heat transfer paper and my Silhouette. I find that it doesn’t stick well sometimes when you use fabric over the vinyl, so I use just the tip of my iron right on the vinyl and it sticks like a charm without melting the vinyl at all.
I love these heart buttons, especially the tall skinny ones, so I just easily sewed those babies on with a needle and pink thread and voila! A super cute bag to put your favorite things in!
The girls all loved them, and I think it was a super fun and easy thing that I could give to everyone that went well with the party.
The bags and buttons were provided free of charge, no other compensation was given. Others may have a different opinion or experience with the products listed above. As always all opinions are 100% my own. Read my full disclosure here.
