Now, I have tried my hand at a LOT of different art forms and DIY craft projects, but can you believe I really haven’t beaded before?!? My husband made me a necklace for my anniversary last year and bought all the stuff for me to be able to do it myself, but…it was overwhelming! Have you been inside a bead store? It’s nuts! Unless you know what you’re doing, and you know what you are looking for. But if you don’t, then you will probably just end up picking out a few pretty beads, spending a ton of money on them and then get them home to realize that you can’t do a thing with them…at least not anything that looks good! Is that just me? We have a bead store here in my town and I have been twice. Both times were too overwhelming and I left feeling frustrated and kind of just gave up on the idea of beading my own jewelry all together. I definitely needed a little guidance on where to start. I was more than relieved to hear about Prima Bead. From their site:
Prima Bead’s trendy in-house designers have hand-picked all of the products on our site. But we didn’t stop there. We’re jewelry makers too and know everyone needs a creative kick-start now and then. So we provide inspiration, free projects, how-to videos, advice and lots of good vibes and support.
Ummm, yup, that sounds like just what I needed!
I picked out a couple of their Jewelry Class in a Box kits. They have everything you need to get started, all the beads, pins, chains, pliers, bead mat, instructions, and any embellishments. And for just $25 a piece to be able to make at least 2 necklaces, 2 pairs of earrings and 2 bracelets, I thought it was a fantastic deal.
I worked from the Pink/Peach Pearl kit. I haven’t started on the other one yet, but plan on taking it to the beach house we are staying at for my birthday next month and making some cute things!
The instructions were easy to follow and I was able to make the necklace and one pair of earrings while watching a holiday movie with the family. After I got the hang of it, I strayed from the book and made some earrings from my own design, nothing fancy, but definitely something I will wear a lot. They are pictured at top, the little pink and peach drop earrings. Below this is me in my new necklace and the other pair of earrings that I made from the book (with a different colored pearl).
I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on the necklace and it goes with a lot of things. I really love it! It’s fun and a little fancy, perfect for holiday parties.
I still have plenty of beads left to make another necklace and some bracelets, maybe I will make them before Christmas and stuff them in my mother in law’s stocking if I can part with them!
If you are a beader, then you must check out Prima Bead and see their adorable beads and great prices, I find it lots less overwhelming. If you are a newbie like me, then check out their kits. These would make great gifts for tweens and teenagers too. I actually think my 19 year old brother would like this, then he can make some DIY beaded jewelry for his girlfriend and score some serious romance points! Honestly, is there anything cuter than having your guy make you something pretty? I know I was pretty choked up when my hubby presented me with the necklace he made for me!
I’ll be sure to post pictures of anything else I make with my kits on Instagram! Have you bought anything or made anything from Prima Bead before? I would love to see it! Who would want something from them in their stocking? You? Your mom? Your daughter, niece, sister, friend, neighbor? Now that I know my way around making jewelry a little better, I know I will be ordering from them again!
